Graham Blakey
Graham BlakeyGroup Scout Leader (GSL)
My route into the Keyworth Scout Group was through my son, who in 2008 was a member of B Pack cubs. At this time I answered the call for new leaders, required to prevent the pack from closing. Fast forward 9 years and I moved from my role as a cub leader to the challenge of GSL. I was not a newbie to scouting when I joined the Keyworth Group, having moved from cubs through to venture scouts in my native North East, many years ago! I am a keen participant of outdoor pursuits including camping, cycling and kayaking. Through scouting I aim to pass on this love of the outdoors. One of the pleasures I get from being part of the Group is seeing young people gain in confidence and independence as they progress through the scouting sections.

Welcome to 1st Keyworth Scout Group

We are a dynamic group committed to providing a varied and challenging programme of scouting activities for boys and girls from the age of 6 to 18 years old.  This includes traditional scouting skills such as pioneering, hiking, camping and map reading, in addition to more 21st centrury pursuits such as geocaching and digital photography.

The group is largely funded by one of the premier running events in the amateur racing diary, The Turkey Trot, which takes place in December.  It is a fantastic fund raiser for the group and a great Keyworth community event.  Proceeds fund several camps and day trips throughout the year allowing us to provide an exciting range of scouting opportunities for our young people

There are many ways to become involved with the group. Young people, depending on their age, are able to join one of the 4 sections: beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers.  Adults can join in the adventure too. Each year we hold a Family camp, all members along with their family (including siblings!) are invited for a weekend of outdoor activities, BBQs and songs around the campfire.  There are many opportunities for volunteering that include, helping with one of the sections, participating in the Turkey Trot organisation or the Scout Executive (parents’) Committee.  To find out more about our Group get in touch via our contact page.

Whatever your involvement with 1st Keyworth Scout Group we hope you enjoy the experience.
